Group: Concept Development
As a group, we felt as though the father and son narrative, with a resolution at the end of the video was quite artificial. We also felt as though the lyrics didn't coincide with our line of action. Consequently, we have decided to change our narrative to two brothers, one of whom has passed away. The audience are going to be positioned with the other brother, whom is shown to be grieving over the loss of his brother and his best friend.
Throughout the video we would like to flashback to the times when the brothers were together, and create a contrast to when they are now separate, and the brother is going back to the places they went together, yet alone. We plan to use colour when the pair are together, and a greyscale filter effect when they are apart, creating a shark contrast. We also plan to use slow-motion shots in our piece to coincide with the slow-cutting rate of our track. We are also using it to connote that everything is happening extremely slowly since the brother/son has died.
Furthermore, we have decided to slightly alter the casting
of our concept. Originally we had casted Harry Garside to play the main
protagonist of the video whom the audience is positioned with throughout,
however we have now decided on using George Thresher to play the younger
brother in the video, and Harry Garside will now play the absent brother in the piece. Simon Wiles
will still play the role of the father in the video, however his appearance in
the video will be less frequent and will not feature throughout the video as we
had planned previously.
