We asked our audience a number of questions to understand whether our ideas are realistic, and also to show us what people really like to see in music videos.
When asking our audience about the colour pallet we should adopt for our music video, the majority believed that a grey colour should be used. This is the type of response we hoped for as our track is extremely dark and sombre, therefore this colour would reflect the mood.
We also asked our audience which themes should be explored in our video. On the whole, the most popular answer was love, with heartbreak and loneliness also mentioned. In our piece, we hope to explore love and heartbreak in a different way, as it is about a relationship between two brothers, where one is shown to no longer be around. This consequently explores each of those 3 themes.
The next question we used rather led on from the previous question, asking what the recognised plot should be for our piece. We had a rather mixed response due to the use of the open question, however, five responses stated it should be about a disastrous event within the family, which is essentially what we have founded our plot around
The next question was our most important as we were not planning on using any performance in our piece. 11 out of our 18 responses stated that performance wouldn't be necessary, especially if we had a strong enough narrative.
The question following this debated whether to use a slow-paced cutting rate or fast-paced. As the song is extremely slow in places, we would like to have a predominantly slow-cutting rate, with the pace of the cutting increasing where the song picks up e.g. in the chorus'. Our results showed that our audience think we should adopt a slow-cutting rate, or interchange between both.
In our next question we gave our audience a list of potential narratives we could use in our piece, and asked them to choose one that fits best with the track. 40% of our demographic stated that using the narrative of two brothers was strong, with a father and son narrative also popular.
The following question was about our digipak, and which images we should include. On the whole, the majority stated that we should use dark colours, with opposing images. Also, some responses stated that we should use a greyscale effect for our design.
In terms of lighting, our audience thought that low-key lighting would fit the best with our piece, with 65% opting for this type.
Lastly, we wanted to know which stylistic filming shots we could incorporate into our piece, and most importantly what our audience would like to see. According to the results, our audience like the idea of tracking shots, pull-focus shots and slow motion shots.
